1 cor 12 10 "Spiritual Gifts" Cont
Verse 10 speaks on the gifts of speaking tongue. We all know that this is one of the most controversial subjects known in the church. Churches have been separated due to this subject. Todays word will be about what the Bible says about the "gift" of tongue. First, what is tongue? Speaking in tongue means the ability to speak a different language without prior knowledge or understanding. But in order of it to help the Body, there must be some interpretation. Body as in the Body of Christ. Tongue is not just uttering something that can't be interpreted. Tongue was never meant to divide but to bring unity. The devil will make his was to counterfeit tongue to bring divide in the body. Tongue doent make u any more spiritual that anyone else.
Tongue doesn't always mean that you are filled with the spirit. Don't let no one tell you that u aren't filled with the spirit if you can speak in tongue. When Jesus was baptized, He was filled with the Spirit but Jesus didn't speak in tongue. If your filled with the Spirit, you will just speak of Christ with Boldness. Acts and Corinthians are the only books of the Bible that speak about tongues. And in these books never does it show that the people with the gift are any better than the people without it.
The gift is not to glorify the person with the gift, but the Giver. 1 Cor 14 (King James Version) speaks on tongues and prophecy. It speaks on the fake tongue is for man to edify himself, but the real gift is to edify the Spirit. Verse 5 speaks it would be good if we all have tongues but we don't, it is better if we all just prophesy. We can't be told that we can't be saved if we don't speak tongue bc we ALL don't have that gift. Once again don't believe someone stating that u NEED to speak tongue to be saved. Verse 6 states, what good is an unknown language if no one can understand it?? If you speak in tongue and no one can interpret it but you, what good is that?
Act 2 speaks of on the day of Pentacost, the believers were in a place were God told them to meet and in the room and sound came over them and the gift of tongue came over them and that all spoke of God loud and in all different languages that they didn't know. At the same time there were devout believers from all nations and they heard them and ran to see what was going on. And when they all came, they found all of the believers speaking in their native language of all the blessings God had bestowed on them. This act was to bring back unity in spirit as it was prior to Gen 11: 9 (when he separated all the people into different languages). Bc in Genesis all the people were of one language but couldn't communicate with each other. The tongue brought the nations together with the word. Pentacost is when all of the Jews of all nations come to Jerusalem to worship. So God places tongues on the group to speak the wonderful works of God to all of the nations. This is how tongues will edify and bring unity to the Body and Spirit of God. This shows the importance of this gift just know when and how it should be used. Even in this story, it shows that the gift of tongue is not enough, because after of this, Peter still preached to those who witnessed and told them that they still need to repent and ask forgiveness for your sins and then you will receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Which is the ultimate gift.
